Kolkata, 8th May 2025 — St. Xavier’s College (Calcutta) Alumni Association (SXCCAA), in proud collaboration with the Department of Sports of St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata, officially launches the second edition of the *Xaverian Soccer League (XSL)* today at a grand press conference. The event was presided over by Rev. Dr. Dominic Savio, SJ, Principal of St. Xavier’s College and President of SXCCAA, along with *Mr. Firdausul Hasan*, Honorary Secretary of SXCCAA, and attended by dignitaries, team owners, players, students, alumni, and members of the media.
Scheduled for *10th and 11th May 2025*, the XSL Season 2 matches will unfold on the revered college grounds—an iconic setting steeped in tradition and youthful spirit. The league, first introduced in 2024, has swiftly become one of Kolkata’s most anticipated youth-centric footballing events, drawing national-level attention for its unique format, inspiring objectives, and the involvement of football icons.
This year’s XSL brings together *eight corporate-backed franchise teams*, each featuring a carefully curated mix of players: *1 Marquee Player*, *1 Guest Player*, *3 Current Students*, and *3 Alumni*—resulting in a vibrant, intergenerational 5-a-side football format that emphasizes mentorship, experience-sharing, and camaraderie. The league’s structure is designed to not only nurture emerging football talent but also foster meaningful engagement between past and present students of the institution.
The participating teams in XSL 2025 include:
1. Sharp Shooters, owned by Mr. Sanjib Koner, with Rahim Nabi as their marquee player
2. Credo Accelerate, owned by Mrs. Sudeshna Roy Choudhury, with Mehtab Hussain
3. Xaverian Tigers, owned by Mr. Faisal Haque, with Ashim Biswas
4. BTL Blasters, owned by Mr. Ravi Todi, with Md. Rafique
5. Levitas, owned by Mr. Vinod Lahoti, with Deepak Mandal
6. Digital Strikers, owned by Mr. Sunil Agarwal, with Denson Devadas
7. Warriors, owned by Mr. Atanu Malik, with Dipankar Ray
8. LOD Lions, owned by Mr. Amit Bajoria, with Alvito D'Cunha
The *objectives of XSL* remain firmly rooted in the spirit of empowerment and connection: to *promote football among the youth*, to *build lifelong bonds between alumni and current students*, and to *expose young footballers to elite-level players*, thereby accelerating their growth on and off the field.
Each team is owned by prominent members of the alumni and supported by enthusiastic corporate partners. The league is also being backed by *celebrity ambassadors*, and enjoys the collaboration of prestigious institutions such as the *British Deputy High Commission, Kolkata*.
