05 June 2026:Howrah Division of Eastern Railway observed World Environment Day 2026 through a series of environmental awareness and conservation initiatives under the leadership of Shri Vishal Kapoor, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Howrah.
The observance commenced at the New DRM Building, where officers and staff participated in the World Environment Day Pledge administered by Shri Vishal Kapoor. The pledge reaffirmed the Division’s commitment towards environmental protection, sustainable development and responsible ecological practices.
To further spread awareness on environmental issues, the Divisional Cultural Association presented a Nukkad Natak titled *“Prakriti Ka Rosh”*. The performance effectively conveyed the message of environmental conservation and highlighted the collective responsibility of society towards protecting natural resources.
In continuation of the World Environment Day observance, a tree plantation and environmental awareness programme was organised at Bamangachi Railway Colony in association with the Eastern Railway Women's Welfare Organisation (ERWWO), Howrah Division. The programme was graced by Shri Vishal Kapoor, DRM/Howrah, and Smt Priti Kapoor, President, ERWWO/Howrah, and witnessed enthusiastic participation from officers, staff members, ERWWO members and their families.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from ERWWO members, officers, officials, employees and their family members. Saplings were planted at designated locations within the colony to promote green cover and encourage sustainable living practices.
Speaking on the occasion, the importance of environmental stewardship, community participation and collective action in building a cleaner, greener and healthier future was emphasized.
The successful observance of World Environment Day 2026 reflects the unwavering commitment of Howrah Division and ERWWO towards environmental sustainability and the preservation of natural resources for future generations.
