The proposed Vishram Grah is envisaged as a dedicated facility to provide safe, clean, and affordable accommodation for attendants and family members accompanying patients who travel from distant places for treatment at AIIMS Kalyani. Many patients undergoing prolonged investigations, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, dialysis, major surgeries, or extended hospital stays are accompanied by relatives who often face considerable hardship in finding suitable accommodation near the hospital. The Vishram Grah aims to address this long-felt need and significantly improve the overall patient experience.
Under the MoU, Sevadaan Arogya Foundation will undertake the construction of the Vishram Grah on land identified by AIIMS Kalyani within the Institute campus. Upon completion, the facility will be jointly managed and operated by AIIMS Kalyani and Sevadaan Arogya Foundation with the sole objective of providing affordable accommodation and support services to patients' attendants. The initiative is conceived entirely as a not-for-profit public welfare project, and no commercial profit shall accrue.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Arvind Sinha, Executive Director, AIIMS Kalyani, said:
"Healthcare extends beyond medical treatment alone. Families often travel hundreds of kilometres to accompany their loved ones during treatment and frequently struggle to find affordable, safe accommodation. The Vishram Grah is an important step towards making healthcare more compassionate and patient-centric. We are grateful to Sevadaan Arogya Foundation for partnering with AIIMS Kalyani in this meaningful initiative, which will provide much-needed comfort and dignity to thousands of patients' families."

"Every day, we receive patients from distant districts of West Bengal and neighbouring states who require prolonged investigations, surgeries, chemotherapy, dialysis, or extended hospitalization. While our primary responsibility is to provide the best possible medical care, we also recognize the immense challenges faced by their families in finding safe and affordable accommodation. The Vishram Grah will address this critical need by providing a dignified and supportive environment for patient attendants, allowing them to remain close to their loved ones during treatment. This initiative will significantly improve the overall patient experience and strengthen our commitment to compassionate, holistic healthcare."
The Vishram Grah is expected to become an integral component of AIIMS Kalyani's patient support services, complementing the Institute's commitment to providing comprehensive, accessible, and compassionate healthcare. The facility will be designed to offer a comfortable and hygienic environment while ensuring that patient attendants remain close to their loved ones during the course of treatment.
The collaboration also reflects the growing role of partnerships between premier public healthcare institutions and philanthropic organizations in strengthening healthcare infrastructure and improving access to essential support services for patients and their families.
