Kolkata, 5th September 2026: Teachers do more than impart knowledge, they shape minds, inspire generations and leave an enduring influence on the lives they touch. For Prof Parboty Chakraborty, a distinguished Sanskrit academic and teacher, her classroom has always been a space of purpose, intellectual engagement and fulfilment. But when persistent physical problems began to severely affect her well-being, her own life was interrupted by months of pain, uncertainty and fear. Seeking the right medical intervention, she turned to Manipal Hospital, Salt Lake, where she was successfully treated under the care of Dr Abhinibesh Chatterjee, Consultant Gynaecologist and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeon, along with his co-surgeon and team member, Dr Polly Chatterjee, Consultant Gynaecologist and Obstetrician.
Prof Chakraborty’s journey as an educator has been marked by a deep commitment to learning and teaching. After beginning her academic journey in Political Science, she pursued an M A in Sanskrit at Rabindra Bharati University and joined the Department of Sanskrit as a lecturer in 1995. She went on to complete her PhD, author seven books, publish around thirty research papers and guide several PhD scholars. She has also been associated with institutions including Jadavpur University and Calcutta University. For her, however, the greatest satisfaction has always come from standing before students in a classroom and enriching them through her lectures.
Towards the end of 2023, Prof Chakraborty began experiencing acute physical problems, particularly uneasiness and pain in the lower portions of her body. The discomfort progressively worsened over the years, leaving her distressed and uncertain about her condition. After earlier consultations failed to provide her with the reassurance she needed, later her search for the right medical care eventually led her to Dr Abhinibesh Chatterjee in January 2024. She was subsequently admitted to Manipal Hospital, Salt Lake, where she underwent a hysterectomy, which was successfully performed and helped mitigate her risk of cancer.
